I grew up with an antipathy towards bullies. This informed my emotional responses to political problems. In fraught situations I sought ways to show the humanity of the underdog. I have an instinctual empathy for the impoverished, the weak and victims of the powerful. Across many years this has formed a visible emotional undercurrent, and a core of content in my work.
